About Us

The OSTS was founded in 1964 as part of the Ottawa Presbytery of the United Church of Canada to provide theological formation to lay Christians. Over the years, it became an independent institution, pursued a more ecumenical mission and incorporated a larger interfaith perspective. Today, the OSTS opens its doors to all who have an interest in deepening their understanding of theology and spirituality.

OSTS acknowledges that it is located on the traditional unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People. We are grateful to the Indigenous peoples for their guardianship – past, present and future - of this land and commit to continuing our path of exploration and discovery of their remarkable history and culture.

The OSTS has the official support of the United Church Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council, the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, the Presbyterian Church Presbytery of Ottawa, and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa.

Over the years, the OSTS has, in turn, found a home at various church buildings of our sponsoring denominations. For courses that are offered in person, OSTS is moving to All Saints Anglican / First United Church in Westboro, Ottawa. Courses that are offered online will take place using Zoom.
